ORANJE is a contemporary art & music event showcasing progressive artists and musicians.

ORANJE is a contemporary art & music event showcasing progressive artists and musicians. The goal of ORANJE is to create an interactive experience of art and music presented in a stimulating, urban environment.

Photos by Chris Kowalski (@cjkowa)

ORANJE began as an idea for a small gathering of friends to share art and music in the spring of 2002. The brainchild of Adam Crockett and Ryan Hickey, two young men with a passion for art, music, experience and creativity, ORANJE first took place in September 2002 and, from there, has quickly grown into a major and highly anticipated cultural event.

Since 2002, ORANJE has continued to develop and grow by broadening its horizons to include more and different types of art and music and by evolving the idea of what an art & music festival can truly be. In fact, over the past seven years, ORANJE has showcased the talents of over 250 fine artists, 125 musicians over 30 independent film makers to over 12,000 patrons with annual attendance of over 3,000! This is all the more amazing when you realize that ORANJE takes place only once a year and for one night only.

Photos by Chris Kowalski (@cjkowa)

Over the life of the event, ORANJE has become one of the premier contemporary culture events in the Midwest and regularly features artists and musicians from all over the region. With the support of ORANJE sponsors, patrons, participants and volunteers, ORANJE continues to explore the boundaries of art, music and culture and present them to the public in an exciting, interactive and stimulating environment where you can truly ‘indulge your senses’.

Marta Hewett opened the Marta Hewett Gallery in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1990, which was devoted to the exhibition of rarely seen works of contemporary studio glass. Her childhood in Columbus, Indiana initiated a love for the visual arts.

As a student, opportunities to explore New York City’s endless offerings of museums and galleries had a profound influence. Marta returned to the Midwest in the mid 80s to complete her B.A. in painting at the School of Design, Art, Architecture and Planning, at the University of Cincinnati. Her career reflects her belief in the benefits of visual arts in everyday life.

Event Details. I will have two pieces (18×24) selling for $100 each. Normal price is $650.00

IDADA First In Line Art Exhibition and Sale
Friday, March 4, 2011, 6:00 – 10:00 pm
Located at Indy Indie Artist Colony
26 East 14th Street
Free and Open to the Public

Join the Indianapolis Downtown Artists and Dealers Association (IDADA) for its 5th annual First in Line Art Exhibition and Sale on the evening of Friday, March 4.

This event will be held in the north gallery of the newly renovated Indy Indie Artist Colony, at 26 East 14th Street (NW corner of 14th & Pennsylvania).

The First In Line event starts out as an exhibition of original art by local artists and IDADA members. All works are priced at $100 and are sold on a first come, first serve basis. When art is purchased, a photo is taken of the buyer with the work. This photo is now displayed, and the art leaves with the patron. The exhibit morphs into a documentary snapshot show! This year we are adding prize drawings. Throughout the evening, when a work sells, we will place the buyer’s name into one bin, and the donating artist’s name into another bin. Names will then be drawn from each bin for prizes.

Proceeds from this event will benefit artists and the IDADA general operating fund, which is used to directly serve artists and galleries in downtown Indianapolis. The First In Line event will coincide with the IDADA First Friday Art Tour. A map is down-loadable at here .

Donate Work
Contributing artists may donate 50% or 100% of the proceeds from the sale of his/her work. All unsold work will be returned to the artist. All proceeds donated to IDADA will support the general operating fund, which serves the local visual arts community. For more information on the programs IDADA supports, or to become an IDADA member, visit www.idada.org.

Donating artists should drop off their work at the Indy Indie site on Tuesday, March 1 or Wednesday, March 2, from 4-8 pm, also at the Indy Indie Artist Colony gallery. Please have work ready to hang, with appropriate (sturdy) hardware in place (wire, cleat, etc.). Please notify us in advance for special exhibition needs, or to reserve a pedestal. Unsold work will be picked up Saturday, March 5, 12-5pm, at the Indy Indie Artist Colony gallery. To donate work, please RSVP Carla Knopp at cknopp@ckartco.com.

To Volunteer
We need volunteers to help during the drop-off and during the First In Line event. We are scheduling two hour shifts for the drop-off, and will have two people on each shift. We still have shifts to cover for Tuesday, March 1 and Wednesday, March 2, 4-8pm. Meet your fellow artists and see all the work as it arrives! We also need volunteers for the First In Line event. Please contact Carla Knopp at the above email to volunteer for this fun event.
