Emerge - A painting about what happens beneath the surface.

At 48 inches wide by 60 inches tall, the scale is meant to be immersive. The work begins as deep black. Not a flat black, but a layered black built slowly over a high-gloss epoxy resin foundation.

Light moves across the surface differently depending on where you stand, revealing depth that feels almost endless.

The black absorbs and reflects at the same time, creating a quiet tension between stillness and motion.

The resin plays a critical role.
It creates a sense of suspension, as if the layers are floating rather than resting. The surface becomes both mirror and window. What appears minimal at first begins to unfold the longer you stay with it.
Near the bottom of the painting, color begins to emerge.

Yellow, orange, and red push forward from within the darkness. These are not decorative accents placed on top. They feel earned and pressured, as if they have worked their way upward through weight and restraint. Subtle hints of blue cut through the warmth, sharpening the contrast and adding unexpected energy to the movement.
My signature black outlines trace and emphasize the brushstrokes in this lower section.
They bring focus without containment, highlighting motion while preserving depth. The outlines allow each mark to stand on its own while remaining connected to the whole.
Emerge is about contrast and patience. About allowing darkness to exist without fear, trusting that something vibrant can come from it. The painting does not rush its reveal. It invites the viewer to slow down, to look longer, and to notice how light, color, and depth shift across the surface.
This work is not loud. But it is alive.
And it is rising.
